Dynamo Dusty’s Tree Service (aka Land Healers aka Miracle Workers)
Another thing you’re going to hear me talk about over and over again is magic. I may be a nerd but I’m ALSO geek, and my love of fantasy, sci-fi, and general pop culture is well known among my friends and family and anyone who gets me in conversation of almost any length. So you’re gonna hear me talking about magic a lot. You’re gonna hear me talking about my goals of being a real life Dungeons and Dragons druid. Am I serious? Only mostly. Because I found a tree guy who gets me.
Dusty Drake works magic with chainsaws. Shooting him and his crew was a hoot and a holler! And loud! Moving from shooting primarily live music around Central Texas to “Day at Work” documenting has not decreased the importance of ear protection. But as the chainsaws started buzzing, The Grove began to take shape. They cut away dead branches to clear space for trees to grow and for a healthy canopy to spread. New sunlight reaching the previously strangled areas is encouraging growth and opening space for birds and butterflies to make their way through the space with ease. Then he started on my meditation circle.
See, Dusty Drake is a special guy. He served his country with pride, worked the oil fields, studies and practices shamanism, has traveled he world, and now spends his energy giving to back the land, to his fellow veterans, and, quite frankly, to everyone he comes in contact with. So when I told him I discovered what I think is a decently old Ashe juniper near which I’d like to make a meditation circle, he said “I got you,” and went above and beyond what I could have hoped for. See, I had imagined clearing out the space in front of the tree and having a Disney’s Pocahontas Grandmother Willow situation (I call her Grandmother Juniper because, again, geek). But Dusty saw what it could really be and cleared away dead scrub I didn’t even realize was there. By the time he was done, Grandmother Juniper was the centerpiece of a beautiful grove that was once an impassable tangle of strangling branches. The space breathes with energy and life and peace.
Oh, and did I mention he’s created the most intensely delicious electrolyte drink I’ve ever had in my years of electrolyte experimentation? I haven’t told him yet, but I’m going to ask him to pay for my photography services partly with that drink. Believe me when I say I’ll let you know when it’s available for purchase. #guineapigliferocks
